Retrograde Motion

  1. Motion in an orbit opposite to the usual orbital direction of celestial bodies within a given system. Specifically, of asatellite, motion in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the primary.
  2. The apparent motion of a planet westward among the stars. Also called retrogression.
