Joule Cycle

(After James Prescott Joule, 1818-89, English physicist). An ideal cycle for engines consisting of isentropic compression of the working substance, addition of heat at constant pressure, isentropic expansion to ambient pressure, and exhaust at constant pressure. Also called Brayton cycle. </dd>
