It is the ratio of heat advection to heat diffusion and may be written Np_e = U l/k where U is a characteristic velocity; l is a characteristic length; and k is the thermometric conductivity. Also, Np_e = N_ReN_Pr where N_Re is the Reynolds number and N_Pr is the Prandtl number. </dd>
